A selection of abstract artists discovered by our field team

About us?

Global Abstraction is a media outlet created by enthusiasts of abstract art, seeking out unexpected, bold works that stray from the beaten path.

Always on the lookout for opportunities to see beyond reality through the eyes of artists, we decided to share our discoveries with a specific goal in mind:

« Providing a showcase for established artists who work outside the speculative art circuit »

Patrick CRISTALLINI - Peinture acrylique abstraite sur toile intitulée "Submersion"

What is abstract art?

Abstract art is an artistic movement that does not seek to faithfully represent visible reality. Unlike figurative painting, which depicts recognizable objects, landscapes, or people, abstract art expresses itself through shapes, colors, lines, and textures that exist for their own sake.

Its goal? To provoke an emotion, a thought, or a sensation—without resorting to a realistic image.

It can be lyrical, geometric, minimalist, or expressionist, but what always defines it is its freedom from the real world.

Christine Lance - Peinture à l'huile abstraite intitulée "Lusio V"
Jean KITTEL - Gravure abstraite par oxydation intitulée "Eau forte 29"

Which works are abstract?

The following are considered abstract:

  • Paintings composed solely of geometric or organic shapes.
  • Color compositions without an identifiable subject.
  • Works based on gesture, texture, or movement.
  • Experiments with materials, light, or perspective.

Examples: a painting by Kandinsky, a composition by Mondrian, a dripping painting by Pollock, a minimalist sculpture.

What is not abstract?

  • A still life, even stylized, depicting recognizable objects.

  • A landscape with distorted but still identifiable shapes.

  • A cubist portrait in which a face or body can be distinguished.

However, some works may combine abstraction and figuration—in which case we refer to partial abstraction or semi-abstraction.
